SIGGRAPH: ALLEGORITHMIC PREVIEWS SUBSTANCE DESIGNER

LOS ANGELES – Allegorithmic (www.allegorithmic.com), based in France, previewed Substance Designer at SIGGRAPH, its next generation texturing software solution. The Substance Designer package includes Substance Player, a standalone application for anyone to review creations, and a collection of samples for training purposes.
(7/29/2010)
Textures created with Substance Designer offer numerous advantages over traditional bitmaps. The texture sequencer allows users to mix and manipulate bitmaps, vector graphics, and procedural elements in order to produce complex maps. And by offering multiple outputs, Substance Designer helps eliminate the painful steps often involved in creating a complete texture set.

The package offers a set of templates and filters designed to serve as “texturing painkillers,” including filters such as "bitmap to material," "automatic tiling," "automatic shadows," and "rust generator." A node-based interface is used for creating textures, and the textures can be changed at any point in the design process.

Allegorithmic will open a “substance” online marketplace in the coming months, allowing animators to download hundreds of highly customizable materials made with Substance. These substances will be ready to use in compatible DCC tools and 3D engines, and in Substance Designer for compositing.
