GRASS VALLEY, CA - AJA Video Systems (www.aja.com) has released a free Apple iPhone application that calculates storage requirements. The DataCalc data rate calculator is designed to serve as a fast and simple tool that can be used in the field during acquisition or in the edit bay. The app allows users to calculate their storage consumption and data capturing requirements.
(12/11/2009)
The app allows users to calculate their storage consumption and data capturing requirements. It supports a wide array of video compression formats, including Apple ProRes, DVCProHD, HDV, XDCAM, DV, RGB and YUV uncompressed, as well as NTSC, PAL, 1080i, 1080p, 720p, 2K and 4K video standards.

Settings can be entered via an intuitive user interface. Durations can be entered in units of days, hours, seconds or even timecode frame count. And the summary page allows users to review results and even deliver the data via email.
