DPI, NEC DEVELOPING DLP CINEMA-BASED PROJECTORS
October 21, 2002
MANCHESTER, UK - Digital Projection International (DPI), here, and NEC Viewtechnology Ltd. (NEC), Japan, have entered into an agreement to develop digital cinema projectors based on three-chip DLP Cinema technology from Texas Instruments (TI). The first Digital Projection Cinema-branded products are expected to launch in Q4 of 2002.

The venture follows NEC's DLP Cinema licensing agreement with Texas Instruments and brings together two leaders in large-screen digital imaging and systems integration. In February 2002, DPI and NEC announced a collaboration to develop advanced display solutions for commercial large-screen applications. DPI currently has projectors based on DLP Cinema technology operating in commercial cinemas in Japan to support feature film programming.
