AES: SOFTWARE ENCODERS FROM DTS
November 1, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO - Agoura Hills, CA's DTS (Digital Theater Systems) showed two new software-based encoders at this year's AES show. The Pro Series 6.1 Surround Encoder is a standalone solution for Mac or PC systems, while the DTS Pro Series Network Encoder is designed for multi-seat facilities and is based on the Apple Xserve RAID storage system. Both can be used to create multi-channel DTS soundtracks for DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and 5.1 CD titles.

According to DTS, the new releases are the only commercially-available solutions for creating 96kHz and 6.1 channel discreet DTS-ES soundtracks for video content on DVD-Audio and DVD-Video discs. The standalone Pro Series 6.1 Surround Encoder is priced at $1,200. The DTS Pro Series Network Encoder can support up to 99 users and is priced at $8,200.
