SIGGRAPH: BRIGHTSIDE LAUNCHES VISION-CRITICAL DISPLAY

LOS ANGELES - At SIGGRAPH, Vancouver's BrightSide Technologies (www.brightsidetech.com), a developer of advanced display technology for monitors and TVs, launched one of the first extreme dynamic range displays. The dynamic range of an image is the range between its brightest and darkest regions. The new display, dubbed the DR 37P, combines a matrix of LED backlights with an LCD panel to deliver 10x the brightness and 100x the contrast of conventional display products.

The new monitor is targeted specifically toward post applications. The company says the displays will initially be used in vision critical applications where customers need to see their images in vivid detail. A consumer version could follow in the future.
