PIXEL FARM HANDLES VFX FOR HILARY DUFF'S LATEST
January 9, 2006

WATCH THE VIDEO

In-demand DP Matty Libatique lensed shot Duff on 35mm film. Jolynn Garnes offlined the video at Jagged Edge then, working on a tight turnaround, Pixel Farm began the effects work.

The video opens with a CG heart and waveform EKG effect created in Alias Maya. The wire-frame mesh that overlays Duff’s face and hands was crafted in Discreet Inferno.

Half-way through the video a graphic, orange-tinted sequence pays homage to Maurice Bender who designed the retro Bond titles, which often featured silhouettes of the agent with a gun. Here, Bond and the gun are replaced by Duff and a microphone.

The Pixel Farm effects team included Maya artists Tom Doeden, Rich Haesemeyer and Jason Kuehn; Smoke editor Steve Medin; graphic artist Deb Kirkeeidee; Fire artist Kurt Angell; and Inferno artist Tom Jacobson.

Colorist Beau Leon at Santa Monica’s The Syndicate cranked up the color to create the super-contrasty look.

Rick Fuller produced the music video for Harder Fuller Films.
