OUTSIDE CUTS MIKE'S PREMIUM MALT COCKTAILS SPOT
|July 19, 2007
Cocktails takes place
in a stylish urban lounge and shows the ingredients of a malt cocktail flying
through the air as a bartender creates a mix. Slow-motion shots of the fluid
are intercut with sped-up shots of the bartender's hands as a bottle-shaped
drink forms on the bar. The cocktail magically transforms into a bottle of
Mike's Premium Malt Cocktails.
Steve Mottershead of Untitled/Toronto directed the spot,
reuniting him with editor Gust, as the pair had worked on numerous Jaguar
projects in the past.
"Neil works so well with music. He and they really pick
cool music, based on direction from the agency creatives. Neil has a keen sense
of style, which fit this project really well."
Many of the effects were created in-camera including the
slow-motion sequences, which were shot at 1,000 fps using a Phantom HD camera.
Gust edited the commercial in Final Cut Pro. Mottershead
handled Flame work and color grading. Outside's Brett Fuchs provided sound
design and music archivist Adam Lawrence selected the track. Eric Thompson of
Berwyn Audio in NYC handled the sound mix.
