AXIS & CONCRETE PARTNER TO OPEN 3D STEREOSCOPIC SUITE

Axis provides a wide variety of camera systems for rental, including Silicon Imaging's SI-2K camera. Axis also provides post facilities at Shepperton Studios. Concrete (www.concretepost.co.uk) provides offline editing, online, visual effects, graphic design, CGI, color grading and surround audio post production from its Soho facility.

The DI suite is based around a Stereoscopic Pablo, Quantel’s realtime 4K grading system. Dual projectors with polarising filters allow the suite to display stereoscopic 3D material and manipulate it in realtime.

The stereoscopic 3D format is beginning to see real commercial viability. The recent 3D release of Beowulf earned a gross profit of three times more than theatres showing the same film in 2D. Current 3D features in production include Shrek 4, Hobbit, Toy Story 3 and James Cameron's Avatar.  Disney has also been taking advantage of the digital 3D format recently with releases such as Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons. The Hannah Montana film was one of the first to be digitally shot in 3D and distributed.

“Our alliance with Concrete means that we can provide the expertise and equipment to shoot 3D material using a variety of camera systems, as well as continue with that support seamlessly through the entire post production process,” explains Axis managing director Paul Carter. “This provides our clients with unrivalled full project support from script to screen.”
