'NEW HAT' TO FEATURE SPIRIT 4K SCANNERS

The first of the two Spirit 4K machines has already been installed, and the second - #100 - was on display at the NAB show, with plans to make its way to studio for installation shortly thereafter. Model #100 represents the new generation of Spirit systems, though more than 270 "classic" Spirit DataCines remain in service around the world.

Colorist Bob Festa was one of the first to use the original Spirit in the Hollywood market. "Ten years ago we wowed the community with brilliant pictures from the original Spirit," he notes. "Today I am looking forward to introducing all of our clients to realtime 2K and 4K quality finishing."

The two Spirit 4K scanners at New Hat will be connected to a common SAN via two Bones workstations. They'll have the ability to ingest dailies lab reels in parallel without compromising quality, giving them a massive speed boost at the start of the digital intermediate process.

Color processing at New Hat will be performed using the Pandora Revolution with Yoyo for nonlinear work. This provides colorists with an identical user interface and toolset regardless of whether they are performing conventional film color grading or nonlinear grading from the SAN of either film or digitally-originated material.
