AES MASTER CLASSES TO LOOK AT TECHNOLOGY & SOUND ARTISTRY

The "Platinum Mixing In The Box" class will be presented by Kevin Killen, who has a long-time background in the analog domain capped by a successful transition to the digital environment. He has worked with the likes of U2, Peter Gabriel and Sugarland, and will address the potential for mixing a million selling record in a bedroom.

Acoustician and studio musician Bob Hodas will present the "Wrangling The Room" master class, which will focus on the speaker/room interface and optimizing system performance. Hodas has tuned over a thousand rooms from Tokyo for Sony Entertainment, to London for Abby Road, and Stateside for Lucasfilms. Frequency, phase response and speaker placement will all be detailed.

"Audiography - Writing With Sound" will be presented by Dirk Brauner, who's designed some of the world's finest microphones. This Master Class will present Brauner's philosophy of recording as sonic artistry rather than a purely technical science. He will explore how microphones represent the first critical step in capturing those elusive moments that define the classic performance.

Additional Master Class topics include "Mastering The Motown Sound," "The Design Of High-Performance Balanced Audio Interfaces" and "Analog Circuit Emulation for Plug-in Design."

The AES show will take place from October 9-12 at the Javits Center in Manhattan.
