SIGGRAPH: ATI INTROS HIGH-END GRAPHICS CARD

According to ATI's Bahman Dara, the company sees the V8750 as a competitor to Nvidia's FX4800, and their testing has shown that it operates extremely fast when working with Autodesk's Maya.

ATI is also now shipping the FirePro S400, a sync module that can connect up to four GPUs per PC. The card can also connect 30 or more PCs together. ATI sees the S400 as competition for Nvidia's Quadro G-Sync, though benefiting from a modern SATA power connection. It's priced at $799.

The company is demonstrating its CrossFire Pro technology, which enables the combining of two discrete GPUs through driver updates and a cable connection. Up to 80 percent scaling performance can be achieved, particularly when using OpenGL applications.

At the company's booth are pods with hardware solutions from the likes of Dell and Lenovo, demonstrating programs from various independent software vendors. In partner news, ATI announced that Dell will be offering the company's FirePro M7720 card as an option in its new flagship 17-inch Precision workstation notebook.
