SIGGRAPH: THE FOUNDRY SHOWS IMPROVEMENTS TO NUKE COMPOSITOR

Version 5.2 received pre-comp tools that facilitate collaborative workflow, along with Python UI improvements, metadata support and the ability to register multiple Viewer Process Gizmos for user defined viewer LUT processing. V.5.2 also enables video monitor output through Blackmagic and AJA Kona and Xena cards. It introduces a Red R3D RedCode format reader that brings the full range of picture information into a full 32-bit float processing environment.

Version 6.0 will incorporate a new shape rotoscope and paint toolset based on a rewritten core curve library and new RotoPaint node. The release introduces a flexible, non-destructive, layer-based paint hierarchy integrated with Nuke's animation and tracking capabilities and supporting per-object attributes. The Foundry's Keylight keyer will be a standard feature.

The Foundry is offering a second compositing product with NukeX 6.0, which incorporates a 3D camera tracker, lens distortion tools and the company's revamped set of Furnace plug-ins, called FurnaceCore.

The Nuke User Group featured professionals from Laika, Digital Domain and Blue Sky Studios who demonstrated their use of Nuke in commercial, film and animated projects. The Foundry showed Ocula 2 at the user group, the latest incarnation its stereo plug-in toolset for Nuke.
