SONY INTROS NEW XDCAM PRODUCTS, TOUTS F23 PRODUCTIONS

The F800 can shoot at variable frame rates for users looking to create slow- or quick-motion effects. Sony has also introduced the companion PDW-F1600 deck, which operates like conventional VTR.

Other announcements included the use of Sony gear on numerous productions. Survivor Expedition Africa is being produced by Mark Burnett Productions using Sony HDCAM HD cameras. The Miss USA pageant was also being shot at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas using Sony HD cameras.

On the feature side, Sony reported a busy year for its CineAlta F23 and F35 cameras. Lucasfilm's Red Tales is currently shooting in Prague using the cameras, and the upcoming Tekken, based on the popular game, is using F23s. In addition, Michael Mann's 1930s gangster feature, Public Enemies - starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale - is also using the F23.

And, related to cinema, Sony's Alec Shapiro adds that theater chain AMC was going to deploy the company's 4K projectors across 4,500 screens.
