THE MILL CREATES IPHONE APP

The application allows users to alter images with the precision and subtlety of a professional tool. Mill Colour was developed by the studio's team of colorists, who have extensive experience in commercials, feature films and television post.

The app emulates primary grading techniques used in a high-end digital suite. Instead of applying and manipulating a filter to fit an image, The Mill's app allows users to adapt and refine the source image to achieve the look and feel they desire.

Andy Orrick, senior telecine producer at The Mill says, "With Mill Colour we wanted to bring a professional user friendly photo grading toolset to a wider audience. For directors and DOPs, the app can be used on location to set guide looks for use as reference within a grading session. For consumers, it is an easy to use app with helpful hints. On Flickr, we have the Mill Colour Image Gallery for people to post images graded with the app. We are also launching a competition to win goody bags and earn a one-on-one session in a pro suite learning tricks from our talented colourists. In turn, via Flickr, we may spot the colourist talent of the future!"

For clients, the app helps make the grading session more collaborative, as images can be taken on-set and given a rough grade that can be set to the colorists for reference. The Mill's colorists have already created some basic looks within the app that are wholly interactive with the photo.
