'DEEP GREEN' TAPS BENT'S ANIMATION TALENT

Bent was responsible for creating several animated segments for the film, along with two accompanying shorts, the documentary's promotional poster, images for the DVD cover, and a few extra features for the Deep Green Website.

Briggs takes audiences to nine countries, including China, to speak with the people with the best ideas, technologies and restorative solutions to end the planet’s dependence on fossil fuels. While the film is mainly live action, animation also plays a key part.

Bent created several explanatory and interstitial animations for the project. For the “Greenagraphics” piece, which explains the importance of conservation in the home, director Pascal Campion lent his stick figure line-art style. The animation was created in Flash and shows how families can cut back on energy use.

Chel White and Brian Kinkley directed "Earth Faces," a series of animated segments that provide different views of the Earth combined with images of human faces depicted in clouds. The images combine 3D CGI, live action and still photography.

Bent also created the two animated shorts that accompany the film. Written by Clark Taylor, the animations take a comedic approach to explain the most serious man-made problems facing our planet's forests and oceans. Randy Wakerlin directed Trees, which offers a humorous yet urgent warning about the effects of deforestation. A woodcut-inspired 2D style was used for the short.

The Krill is Gone highlights the effects of global warming on Earth's ocean ecosystems. Jeffery Bosts directed the short, which combines 3D CG and 2D After Effects animation.
