JVC'S 3D MONITORS USED FOR 'AVATAR' D.I.

The JVC GD-463D10U produces 3D images that can be seen using inexpensive polarized (passive) glasses, the result of its integrated Xpol polarizing filter. The monitors allowed technicians to view the 3D images in realtime while processing the 3D conform through the studio’s Quantel Pablo stereo 3D systems. The monitors were also used while creating English subtitles, in 3D space, for the translation of the blue-skinned Na’vi characters’ language.

And for quality control of various elements of the film, Smirnoff says the GD-463D10U monitors provided excellent stereo accuracy, displaying a true representation of the 3D space that would eventually be seen in theaters using Dolby 3D, IMAX 3D, RealD 3D, and XpanD 3D formats.
