NAB: CINEDECK AIMS AT REPLACING SR DECKS

The “Cinedeck” supports an array of codecs and file formats, including CineForm in both AVI/MOV wrappers, and MPG2 MXF. VTR and monitoring functions allow users to preview, focus assist, record, play back, downconvert, and transcode material, and off-the shelf solid-state storage helps keep costs low. A 128GB drive costs about $400, and a 256GB runs approximately $720. Connectivity is made possible via Blackmagic Design’s HD Extreme 3 card.

The first Cinedeck release — Cinedeck/Extreme targets HD production, particularly those shooting with Arri’s D21, Panavision’s Genesis, Sony, Panasonic and Canon cameras. The unit offers 8-/10-bit 4:2:2 recording via HDMI/HDSDI; 12-bit 4:4:4 recording via dual link /3G HDSDI; SD PAL/NTSC; HD 720p 50/59.94/60 and Varicam; and HD 1080 50/60i - 23.98/24/25/29.97/30/50/59.94,60 p/psf.

Pricing is just under $10,000.  The company also has plans to release 3D, 2K, 422 and DSLR versions of Cinedeck later this year.
