Panasonic ships compact, master quality HD camcorder

SECAUCUS, NJ — Panasonic (www.panasonic.com/broadcast) is now shipping the AJ-HPX3100 master quality 1080p P2 HD camcorder, the company’s most compact and lowest-priced 2/3-inch 1080p 3-CCD camcorder. The HPX3100 can acquire full-raster 1920 x 1080 resolution imaging with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling using the AVC-Intra codec. 

Panasonic says the unit is designed for scripted programming, documentary, nature, cinema and commercial production. The camcorder is equipped with two P2-slots and can record HD in AVC-Intra and DVCPRO HD at 1080 in 24p, 25p, 30p, 50i and 60i. It can also capture in SD.

The HPX3100 weighs 8.6 pounds, has a high sensitivity of F11 at 2,000 lux in 1080i, and a signal to noise ratio of 59 dB with its digital noise reduction turned on. Standard interfaces include an HD-SDI input for external line recording, IEEE 1394A in/out, USB 2.0 in/out, genlock in with HD Tri-Level Sync or VBS in, and SMPTE timecode in/out.
