LOS ANGELES — The feature film The Precinct (www.theprecinct.az) has been selected by the National Committee of Azerbaijan for submission to the 83rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The mysterious drama is set in Baku, Azerbaijan and represents a co-production between Azerbaijan’s Narimanfilm and Georgia’s Georgianfilm and Bagira Films.  

The film debuts in the US on Friday, December 3rd at the Sunset Laemmle 5 in Los Angeles. Written and directed by Ilgar Safat,The Precinct was shot entirely in Azerbaijan on 35mm film, and is presented in Azeri and Russian, with English subtitles.

The Precinct is Safat’s feature debut. The film centers around a successful, non-conventional photographer from Azerbaijan, whose portfolio is dominated by provocative but highly artistic pictures of naked women. When he and his girlfriend are involved in an auto accident, the police lead the injured couple to the precinct, where they are interrogating and accused. 

Nariman Mammadov worked as producer. Rustam Shafiyev served as post-production manager for the film, and Heiner Hessenland was post supervisor. Eveline Finkenzeller cut the negative. CinePostproduction Bavaria Film & Ton handled lab and print duties.
