Soho FX employs Tactic for workflow management

TORONTO — Soho (www.sohovfx.com) VFX has purchased 100 seats of Southpaw Technology's Tactic in an effort to streamline workflow, communications and task management. Soho VFX was founded in 2002 and has since contributed visual effects to more than 50 feature films and television productions, including The Fantastic Four, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The A-Team, Battle: Los Angeles, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Tactic is designed to manage production workflows with the ability to tie digital assets to production notes, status updates, tasks and resources. This allows a large team of artists to know what they are supposed to be working on. Artists can also track the time they are spending on a given task, and this in turn allows Tactic to provide a realtime financial view of what assets and shots cost to create. This information can help the process of bidding future jobs.

“We have our own internal system for managing assets, but we wanted a new system to streamline our workflow and task management,” explains Soho FX co-founder Allan Magled. “Tactic offered the perfect system for that. Its flexibility allowed us to tie it to our internal asset management system. And because of its built-in ability to tie assets to tasks, resources, notes, time tracking and more, it has been relatively easy to sync the two systems and get up and running.”
