VES establishes New York Section
April 25, 2011

NEW YORK — The Visual Effects Society (www.visualeffectssociety.com) has formed a Section in New York. The Section will include members from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The VES represents approximately 2,500 visual effects artists and practitioners worldwide. The New York section joins existing VES sections in Australia, New Zealand, London, San Francisco and Vancouver.

In order to qualify for official Section status, 50 regional VES members had to organize and petition the VES board of directors for recognition. The New York Section’s short-term goals will be on establishing member education and mentoring programs, organizing and hosting creative and technical panels, and expanding local membership in the region.

At its first meeting, New York VES Section members elected the first board of managers. Those serving include chair Sarah Dowland, secretary/treasurer Eric J. Robertson, and members at large Ivan Moran, Mark Russell, Lesley Robson-Foster, Mitchell Ferm, Jim Rider, David Bernkopf, and Aleksandar Djordjevic.
