LAS VEGAS — SMPTE (www.smpte.org) announced that Oscar, Emmy, and BAFTA award winner Rob Legato will speak at DCS 2011 at NAB. DCS is co-produced by SMPTE and NAB. The non-commercial scientific gathering will focus on research and advanced technologies, practical applications of motion imaging solutions, critical standards initiatives, industry trends and future technology needs.

Legato is a highly regarded VFX supervisor, director, and director of photography, as well as an expert in virtual and 3D production. He will discuss his work on the 3D feature from director Martin Scorsese, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which is scheduled for release this Thanksgiving.

Legato will address how the intentional use of 3D for its artistic merits can enhance the depth and breadth of a character, locale and story. He will also discuss the digital previsualization used to streamline and accelerate the 3D production of Hugo Cabret.

The presentation will take place on Saturday, April 9 at 1:30pm in rooms S222/223 of the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
