October 19, 2011

CALGARY, ALBERTA — iStockphoto is celebrating its fifth anniversary by offering 15 percent discounts on video purchases through October 23rd. The company is also offering its first-ever video download by member “geopaul” for free for a limited time.

Jim Goertz, director of video content development at iStockphoto, notes a number of trends taking place in the stock video business, particularly the use of stock due to reduced ad budgets and the growing demand for online video content.

iStockphoto’s video library contains almost 400,000 files. Its team of more than 6,500 contributors adds roughly 2,500 files per week. Some of the top videos sold at include footage representing technology, spirituality, and hectic lifestyles.

Additional trends include demand for gritty, authentic stock videos that imitate reality; and an increased call for more edited mini-films. Many of the provider’s contributors use DSLR cameras to shoot stills and video simultaneously.
