Independent films star at Golden Globes

LOS ANGELES — According to the Independent Film & Television Alliance (IFTA), independent films won nine top awards at the Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. 

Independent films received top honors in these major categories: Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama Meryl Streep – The Iron Lady (The Weinstein Company, Pathe International)

Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical The Artist (Wild Bunch)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical Jean Dujardin – The Artist (Wild Bunch)

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical Michelle Williams – My Week With Marilyn (The Weinstein Company)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture Christopher Plummer – Beginners (Focus Features)

Best Director Martin Scorsese – Hugo (GK Films)

Best Original Screenplay – Motion Picture Woody Allen – Midnight In Paris (Gravier Productions, Mediapro, Televisió de Catalunya (TV3), Versátil Cinema)

Best Foreign Language Film A Separation (Iran)

Best Original Score – Motion Picture Ludovic Bource – The Artist (Wild Bunch)

The (IFTA) is the global trade association of the independent motion picture and television programming industry.
