SUPER BOWL: Cut+Run edits Samsung, Sketchers & more

LOS ANGELES — Cut + Run edited a number of commercials that aired during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5. Editor Jay Nelson used Final Cut Pro to cut Underdog for Sketchers, a commercial in which a bulldog is able to outrun a line up of greyhounds with time to spare — mainly because of his impressive athletic shoes. Siltanen and Partners conceived the spot, which was produced by HSI Productions and director Ryan Ebner.

Avid editor Steve Gandolfi cut Cheetah and Think Fast for Hyundai. Conceived by agency Innocean, the spots were produced by Rattling Stick and director Daniel Kleinman. In Cheetah, the caged animal turns on its handler when given the chance. Think Fast features a young executive whose quick thinking is able to jolt his boss back to life after a heart attack.

Gandolfi and Cut & Run’s Frank Effron teamed up to edit Samsung’s Thing Called Love, a :90 commercial, out of agency 72andSunny. The pair used Avid NLEs to cut the project, which was produced by Rabbit Content, with Bobby Farrelly directing and Matt Leonetti serving as DP. The commercial centers around frustrated smartphone fans who constantly find themselves waiting on line for “the next big thing.” A Samsung owner introduces them to the latest release, which kicks off a celebration that features rock stars, BMX riders, marching bands and a human cannon ball. Co3’s Stefan Sonnenfeld served as colorist and The Mission provided online and VFX services.
