Sonixphere holding percussion 'Master Class'
April 11, 2012
CHICAGO — On Thursday, April 12, Sonixphere (www.sonixphere.com) will host a Master Class, led by percussion virtuoso, Kalyan Pathak, who will take attendees on a rhythmic journey deep into the world of Indian percussion. Sonixphere provides music, sound, and sonic branding services. The studio produces and hosts Master Classes on a bi-monthly basis in an effort to bring together the advertising and music communities in an informal setting.

As part of the class, Pathak will demonstrate Tabla grooves and dance beats from North and South India. A world-class rhythm master, Pathka has performed with artists that include Aretha Franklin, Yo Yo Ma, Fareed Haque Group, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. A native of Chicago, Pathka is an in-demand virtuoso tabla and multi-ethnic percussionist, as well as a composer and music educator.

Attendees will have a chance to learn about a dhol, nekkara, chanda or tabla, and other unique hand and stick percussion. Each Master Class ends with a jam session, and attendees are invited to participate.

The class will take place at 6pm at Sonixphere, which is located at 445 E. Ohio, Suite 220. Those interested in attending should RSVP to info@sonixphere.com.
