Cinesite creates 100 VFX for 'Iron Man 3'

LONDON — Visual effects house Cinesite (www.cinesite.com) completed over 100 shots on the new Marvel Studios film, Iron Man 3, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow. In the latest installment, Tony Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands. Left to survive by his own devices, he fights his way back and attempts to discover the answer to the questions about his Iron Man armor.

Cinesite completed over 100 shots in just eight weeks. The studio’s work ranged from composites to digital matte paintings and full CG environments. One key sequence involved a gun battle at an abandoned marina between the Tony Stark and James Rhodes characters and a group of “Extremis” villains. Many shots were filmed against greenscreen and feature almost entirely CG environments. In another shot, the Stark Industries complex, seen from above, has been digitally landscaped, with buildings repositioned and dense CG trees added to the perimeter.

“This has been a fantastic opportunity for us to work with Marvel Studios and we look forward to working with them again in the future,” says Antony Hunt, managing director of Cinesite. “It has also been a great way for us to kick off 2013, which looks set to be a busy year for Cinesite.”
