FilmLight expands China presence with new Beijing office

LONDON — FilmLight (www.filmlight.ltd.uk) recently expanded its presence in China with the addition of Eric Liu, who will operate the company’s new Beijing office. FilmLight develops color grading systems, image processing applications and workflow tools, including Baselight, Flip and Flux. Liu is a veteran of the post industry, having spent time at both Avid and Apple. He also set up his own distribution and reseller business, Digital Ocean. At FilmLight China, Liu and a team of four sales and support staff will work to expand the company’s customer base in the country.

One of Liu’s (pictured) first tasks was to organize workshops and seminars during the month of July. The events featured FilmLight product experts Jacqui Loran, Daniele Siragusano and Bob Chorley, and showed how to achieve a render-free, seamless workflow from set through editorial to finishing.

FilmLight’s existing customer base in the region include Phenom Films, a specialist in VFX, DI, post and editorial; and Image Forestt Studios (IFS), a film production company that recently adopted FilmLight’s extended end-to-end pipeline, adding Daylight dailies systems and Baselight for Avid plug-ins to integrate with its Baselight finishing systems.

“Over the eight years of doing business in China, we’ve learned a lot and seen big changes,” says Wolfgang Lempp, FilmLight co-founder. “Chinese facilities are now in an ideal position to adopt sophisticated workflows and new technologies. In response to this, we have started to engage more directly with customers in China, like we do elsewhere in the world already.”

FilmLight will also have a presence at BIRTV, the Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Exhibition, set to take place in August. The company will present its latest generation Baselight systems; Flip, the realtime image processor; the Daylight dailies platform; and Baselight Editions for editing and VFX.
