Fraunhofer further develops DCP solution

ERLANGEN, GERMANY — The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS (www.iis.fraunhofer.de) developed its EasyDCP software suite in an effort to ensure that every DCP can be shown in any movie theater, and meet SMPTE and ISO standards. The suite, which can be used for mastering and playback of digital cinema packages, is already licensed by Quantel, Blackmagic Design and Netflix. It has integrated IMF capability to allow exchange of high-quality images, audio and subtitles between post studios via a uniform format. At NAB 2015, Fraunhofer added new features to ensure easy and correct handling of DCPs, an asset management tool and hybrid JPEG 2000 encoding.

Version 3.2 of EasyDCP now offers DCP and IMP (Interoperable Master Package) handling in one tool. DCP playback is performed using GPU-accelerated JPEG 2000 decoding. The new version makes subtitle handling easier in respect to conforming and versioning. There is also now support for Atmos track files. In addition, the interface has been improved, and advanced scaling and cropping options have been incorporated to further improve the authoring process.
