HP debuts Omen Pro mobile workstation & 4K DreamColor display

LAS VEGAS — HP (www.hp.com) is making several announcements at the NAB show in Las Vegas this week. The company has introduced the second generation of its Z Turbo drive, which is designed to relieve data bottlenecks in workstations. Scheduled for release in June, the new Z Turbo drive offers up to 4x the speed of SSD drives, and can be used as a boot drive or a data drive. HP’s Z440, 640 and 840 workstations will all support the new release.

The company is also introducing a new mobile workstations that bridges the gap between its UltraBook and ZBook line ups. According to HP’s Jeff Wood, the new HP Omen Pro is designed for professionals who need greater 3D capabilities than the UltraBooks currently provide, be it for graphics or CAD work. The Omen Pro features a 15.6-inch screen, 8- or 16GBs of RAM, 4th generation Intel Core processors, Nvidia Quadro K1100 graphics, the company’s new Z Turbo drive, and an assortment of I/O, including four USB 3.0 ports, one mini DisplayPort 1.2, and an HDMI port. The mobile workstation will come with a three-year warranty.

And on the display side, HP is introducing its first 4K color display. The 31.5-inch DreamColor will be available later this summer and is the company’s largest model to date, offering 3,820x2,160 4K resolution via eight million pixels. The display provides a 16:9 aspect ratio and is 10-bit factory calibrated. Multiple inputs will allow users to use it as a quad-HD display. It’s the first display to incorporate HDMI 2.0, and can be used in landscape or portrait mode.
