In 1939, Shure first introduced the Unidyne, a single-element unidirectional microphone. The achievement changed the way microphones were made. During World War II, Shure provided microphones to the US military, meeting all military testing specifications for its products, and the company continues to uphold this effort. Its SM57 and SM58 were developed in 1965 and 1966 respectively, and remain two of the most popular and widely-used microphones in the world.
