Toyota employs VR for new Prius spot

LOS ANGELES — Creative studio VR Playhouse (http://vrplayhouse.com) and director DJ Turner created a two-minute VR video for Toyota that takes viewers on a trip up the Northern California coast in the automaker’s newly-redesigned Prius. The spot — titled Prius. Redesigned. CA, Style. — is viewable using Google Cardboard headsets.

In the immersive video, a group of friends load up their Prius vehicles to embark on classic summer adventures. This includes taking selfies with farm animals, driving along the Golden Gate Bridge, camping in the woods, swimming in the river and exploring the countryside.

Handl Partners conceived the project, which VR Playhouse produced. Director DJ Turner, a Northern California native himself, was inspired by the state’s natural beauty.

“We wanted to show the idea of people traveling, going on adventures, and spending time with friends, incorporating not only iconic locations like San Francisco and the Central Valley, but also parts of NorCal life that you don’t often see, like tubing in the river,” he notes. “Northern California has so much to experience, and the Prius is a great way to do it all. I hope the 360 video encourages people to get out and explore, wherever they may be.”
