AUDIOENGINE COMPLETES WORK ON 2-PART HISTORY CHANNEL SPECIAL

PHOENIX - AudioEngine|West (www.audioengine.net) recently completed audio post on a two-part series for The History Channel that explores the Knights Templars. The studio created an original score as well as handled sound design and mixing on the two shows, titled The Templar Code: Crusade of Secrecy and The Templar Code: The Quest for Templar Treasure.

The programs aired in mid-November and look at where the Knights Templars came from; how they lived, fought and became a Medieval world power; and the suspicious circumstances behind their sudden downfall. The programs also look at why these warriors - dead for seven centuries - and their treasure still populate entertainment vehicles such as the film National Treasure and the book "The Da Vinci Code."

For AudioEngine|West, the project marks an ongoing collaboration with director Geoffrey Madeja, as the studio had mixed another History Channel show with him in the past.

For this project, composer Jason Camiolo met with Madeja to discuss the creative direction of the score, which needed to reflect the darkness of the subject matter. With a tight turnaround time, Camiolo set to work, writing music for the 10 segments included in the entire two-part special.

"The score was inspired by the dramatic and medieval footage, which included compelling battle scenes, knights in armor and shots of sacred treasures,” says Camiolo. “Geoffrey wanted a sound that was orchestral, but modern in its moodiness. Since most of my work is done for commercials, it was exciting for me to apply my talent to this type of project."

Sound designer Aaron Casey and mixer Bob Giammarco also contributed to the TV special. For many of the battle sequences, Camiolo and Casey worked together to ensure the music and sound design complemented each other.

The shows were produced by Mindworks Media Group in Chicago and Phoenix. Mindworks’ Bernie Dudek edited the project.

Rob Beadle at Copperpost in Phoenix handed the online.
