PHOENIX SOUND OPENS WITHIN UK'S PINEWOOD

NOTTINGHAM, UK – Phoenix Sound, which recently moved into an empty sound stage at British film and television production facility Pinewood, has completed recording its first orchestral session. The studio’s focus is on music-to-picture work for film and television.

Recording Architecture designed the new studio space, which features a Neve VR 72-channel console and a combination of Pro Tools|HD, RADAR and a Sony 3348 digital multi-track for recording.

ATC monitors were used in configuring the 5.1 environment. ATC SCM200ASL Pro three-way actives are installed as the main L/C/R studio monitors. Powered SCM20ASL Pro units are used for the rear channels. Two SCM 0.1/15 Pro subs extend the extreme low-frequency, delivering over 118dB at very low distortion down to well below 20Hz.

The studio itself can easily accommodate up to 30 musicians. With the involvement of David Ward (formerly of Gateway Studios) in the Phoenix enterprise, the studio will also host professional development courses for the film industry, and well as an extensive teacher training program.
