POW! PIX CREATES HD ELEMENTS FOR BELMONT STAKES

NEW YORK - Pow! Pix (www.powpix.com) recently created a series of HD teasers and features used in the remote broadcast of the 2005 Belmont Stakes. The crew used a collaborative HD workgroup environment, including a 5TB Avid Unity shared-storage media network system with three Avid Media Composer Adrenaline HD systems.

Avid DNxHD encoding technology, allowed the Pow! Pix editorial team to share HD files simultaneously in realtime while maintaining mastering HD image quality throughout the entire post process.

Bob Barzyk, president of Pow! Pix, says that in creating features and teases for the Belmont Stakes, the team needed access to many hours of footage captured earlier in the season, from the Kentucky Derby to the Preakness. Avid Unity allowed everyone on the team to grab shots of a particular horse and jockey from earlier races.

DNxHD lets them view the footage in HD resolutions without straining the speed of the workflow.

Pow! Pix also has another editorial team, with the same Avid HD workflow, producing segments and teasers for the 2005 Dew Action Sports Tour - an extreme sports event that just kicked off a five-month competition. The Pow! Pix crew will produce segments for all five of the 2005 Dew Action Sports Tour competitions taking place in different cities throughout the country from June through October.
