TASCAM UPDATES DM-3200 CONSOLE, ANNOUNCES 'GIGASTUDIO' PLUG-IN

MONTEBELLO, CA - TASCAM has updated its DM-3200 console with the recent introduction of Version 1.20 software, which includes support for the IF-FW/DM FireWire card and IF-SM/DM Surround Monitoring card, helping to turn the unit into a complete system for computer recording and surround mixing. The company also announced that it will ship Giga Virtual Instrument (GVI), a plug-in sampler instrument powered by the Giga sampling engine later this spring.

For the DM-3200, cascade support has been added - using the built-in cascade port - as well as MIDI machine control and GPI. The DM-3200 features 48-channels and can mix at resolutions of up to 96kHz/24-bit. The system is equipped with 16 busses and 8 aux sends, as well as a powerful effects processor.

DM-3200 Version 1.20 is available as a free download from the TASCAM Web site and adds additional features that include: MIDI control of external devices via MADI control change messages; more flexible assignment of the LED ring encoders; and internal automation that now supports automating buss assignments and effect parameters. The console's LCD user interface also sees improvements.

TASCAM's upcoming Giga Virtual Instrument (GVI) is a plug-in sampler instrument powered by the Giga sampling engine. The plug-in is designed for all Windows workstation software - including Pro Tools - and shares many of the specs that made the GS3 the choice of many professionals worldwide, including unlimited polyphony, 96kHz/24-bit sample support and embedded GigaPulse convolution.

GVI runs as a 16-part multi-timbral plug-in instrument in both VSTi and RTAS formats. Those who want to create new libraries from scratch or get into deeper instrument editing can upgrade to GigaStudio 3 Orchestra, which also features the zero-latency Kernel performance, GigaPulse Pro processing and sophisticated mixing features.

The suggested retail price of GVI will be $399 and TASCAM is already working on Mac version.
