NEW YORK - The Audio
Department Recording Studios recently hosted the cast of HBO's hit series The
Sopranos, who were in to record voices for
the upcoming videogame The Sopranos - Road to Respect. Cast members involved in recording sessions
included James Gandolfini, Michael Imperioli, Tony Sirico, Steven Van Zandt,
Joseph Gannascoli, Vincent Pastore and Robert Iler.
Los Angeles-based VoiceWorks Productions oversaw the entire
voiceover recording process with company CEO Douglas Carrigan directing all of
the talent and working with the show's licensor HBO, as well as the game's
publisher THQ and developer Seven Studios.
Don Hoffman, engineer at The Audio Department, followed the
specs of the game's audio lead Dan Lehrich of Seven Studios.
The recording for the entire game was a joint effort by The
Audio Department and Atlantis Group Recording in LA.
Atlantis Group's John Chominsky recorded the game's playable
character, Joey, along with over 450 secondary characters. The bicoastal effort
was challenging because of the very specific two-mic set-up that was used.
Several cast members were recorded on both coasts, and consistency between
sessions was crucial.
A vintage Neumann U87 was used as the main mic and a
Sennheiser MKH 416 was used to
pick up room ambience. Both mics were recorded on a stereo track in Digidesign
Pro Tools giving post mixers the option of using either track, or a combination
of both.
The Sopranos - Road to Respect will be released this fall.
