HOMESTEAD CUTS PARODY DOCUMENTARY TRAILERS

NEW YORK - Homestead Editorial (www.homesteadedit.com) cut two parody documentary trailers that were featured during the recent Full Frame Film Festival. The festival was established in 1998 and celebrates the documentary format, this year taking place in Durham, NC.

Homestead’s Charly Bender edited the two parodies, March of the Penguins and Thin Blue Line.  The :90 Penguins trailer parodies the 2005 Oscar-winning documentary by the same name. However, in the comedic version, the penguins come under attack by a group of military operatives. The trailer was produced by McKinny Silver in Durham and was directed by Kevin Donovan of Form.

The 1988 documentary Thin Blue Line was directed by Errol Morris. The film dramatically re-enacts the crime scene and investigation of a police officer's murder in Dallas. The new parody version is an :80 musical that takes place in a prison cell. The project was also produced by McKinny Silver and directed by Donovan. Both close with a graphic promoting the festival and the tag: “Some stories make better documentaries.”

The trailers were offlined using an Avid Xpress Pro system and assembled in Discreet Flame. March of the Penguins called on Maya, Terragen and Flame for graphics and effects. Thin Blue Line used Maya for 3D and Flame for compositing. The projects were mixed by Tom Jucarone at Sound Lounge in New York City using Digidesign Pro Tools gear.
