CANOPUS MEDIAEDGE EASES HD DISTRIBUTION

SAN JOSE, CA – Canopus (www.canopus.com), which is a part of the Grass Valley business within Thomson, has introduced MediaEdge3, a new LAN-based video delivery solution that supports video-on-demand (VOD), live broadcast, streaming, digital signage applications and pre-programmed playback of high-definition (HD) video content.

MediaEdge3 is an affordable video distribution system that uses Canopus MPEG compression technology to deliver HD video across the enterprise, making it suitable for high-quality video distribution and display in retail settings, sports arenas, corporations, airports, campuses, museums, and theaters. It also represents an expansion of the Grass Valley ProLine series of products for professional audio/video applications and users.

The MediaEdge3 solution provides a multi-channel, multi-location video delivery system using standard TCP/IP networks and both standard-definition and HD display devices. Its flexible, modular design offers a cost-effective method for distributing HD MPEG-2, as well as SD MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 video content to multiple PCs and set-top box clients.

Supporting Windows 2003 Server, the MediaEdge-SVS3 server software facilitates the setup and administration of sophisticated broadcast systems over a client/server-based network. The software features several applications responsible for overall content management and server configuration, as well as utilities for controlling and updating MediaEdge-STB3 set-top boxes or client PCs running the MediaEdge-SWT3 software client. With its HTML-based interface, the MediaEdge-SVS3 software offers remote administration capabilities using a Web browser and a flexible, standards-based, platform for designing customize applications.

Designed as a compact network device, the MediaEdge-STB3 set-top box operates as an MPEG decoding unit. Connecting to a standard Ethernet network and providing SD and HD component video output, MediaEdge-STB3 units include a full-featured remote control to navigate dynamically updated, Web-styled content menus generated by the MediaEdge server. The remote control also provides volume, pause, search back, and search forward functions. MediaEdge-STB3 units can also be controlled remotely from the server.
