ACME UPGRADES STATIONS TO HD

SANTA ANA, CA – Acme Communications, which is one of the largest affiliate groups of the CW Television Network, here, has purchased six JVC DM-JV600U high definition MPEG-2 encoders. JVC’s encoders are Acme’s primary on-air HD encoders at six stations across the US. The CW affiliate has upgraded its stations to bring HD programming to its markets affordably.

“We purchased six of the JVC DM-JV600U HDTV encoders because of its high quality and its affordable price,” explains Brent Stephenson, VP of engineering at Acme Communications. “The JVC encoders cost half the price and tested through our evaluation process to be an equal or better than the encoders we formally had purchased. In addition to great performance, JVC’s encoders are very easy to use and work flawlessly. JVC also offered an affordable extended warranty as well.”

JVC’s AVP of business development, broadcast and entertainment, Lawrence Librach says the ProHD DM-JV600U HDTV encoder makes it possible for smaller, mid-market groups to cost-effectively upgrade to HD.

“Commitment from these groups like Acme shows that we can provide high-quality, on-air HDTV encoders without compromising quality - whether our encoders are utilized in 100-plus market stations or used for digital dailies by some of Hollywood’s most prestigious producers, we truly are the affordable solution of choice to transition from SD to HD,” says Librach.

Stations WIWB-DT in Green Bay, WI; WBUW-DT in Madison, WI; WBUI-DT in Decatur, IL; WTVK-DT in Fort Meyers, FL; WBXX-DT in Knoxville, TN; and KASY-DT in Albuquerque, NM have all been upgraded with the encoders.
