IGNITE MEDIA RAISING PHILIPPINE FILM STANDARDS

THE PHILIPPINES - Ignite Media opened up shop in the Philippines just a year ago, but is already seeing recognition for its post services, having recently been awarded two Metro Manila Film Festival trophies for its work on Tales from the Enchanted Kingdom: Exodus. The studio, led by CEO Dave Hukom, was honored in the “Best in Visual Effects” and “Best in Sound Recording” categories for its work on the feature, which was directed by Erik Matti with Lyle Sacris serving as director of photography.

The project was a co-production between Ignite, Dondon Monteverde’s Reality Entertainment and Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla’s Imus Productions. Ignite edited the feature, working from
61 hours of footage. Avid Xpress Pro HD was used for offline and Avid DS Nitris for finishing. The editorial team spent three months cutting the production down to its final 1 hour and 40 minute running length.

The film features 1,500 computer-generated effects, making it one of the biggest undertakings in Philippine filmmaking history. Visual effects supervisor Edrie Ocampo had two months and a team of 40 artists working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using a combination of Alias Maya, Adobe After Effects, Autodesk Combustion, Digital Fusion and an Avid DS Nitris system.

The “Best in Sound Recording” award was accomplished through the work of Ditoy Aguila using Digidesign’s Pro Tools. Aguila pre-mixed the audio in Ignite’s facilities, which made the audio editing at Thailand’s Technicolor much easier.

For the festival, Ignite played Exodus back from the DS Nitris system in an effort to thwart piracy, rather than submit a tape.
