TERANEX HELPING DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS CONVERT CONTENT FOR OVERSEAS

SILVER SPRING, MD – Discovery Communications, parent company of the Discovery Channel, is using Teranex video processors to convert content for European distribution. Teranex, based in Orlando, FL, manufacturers 3RU and 6RU video computer platforms that perform over 15 trillion operations per second and allow for rapid tuning of software algorithms. Discovery has been using the Teranex 6RU most recently to convert HD 1080i/60 content from the U.S. to 1080i/50 for European distribution.

“At Discovery we’re all about delivering the highest quality content and images,” says Peter Riordan, VP of production center operations for Discovery. “After careful evaluation of all the top video processing companies, we have chosen Teranex products because they have consistently delivered some of the best quality images in the industry.

”We were attracted to the Teranex video computer platform because of its flexibility and its strong performance,” Riordan continues. “When we first purchased the Teranex four years ago, our initial needs were primarily for up and down conversion, but with the launch of Discovery HD, and our international HD service, our cross conversion needs have grown exponentially.”
