DIGITAL FILM LAB ADDS SECOND RESOLVE MASTERING SUITE

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – Digital Film Lab (www.digitalfilmlab.com) has purchased a da Vinci Resolve DI nonlinear color enhancement system to handle an increase in digital intermediate work. The system complements the facility’s existing da Vinci Resolve RT system and will improve workflow efficiency on commercials, DVD mastering in HD, and film restoration.

Digital Film Lab offers a range of DI post production services, from shoot to final prints and deliverables. The company specializes in digital intermediates of complete feature films, short films, documentaries, and commercials from 16 mm, 35 mm, or any
digital format.

Resolve’s open architecture allows the studio to integrate the suite with existing systems and provides a direct connection to the facility’s SAN. Once material is loaded into the SAN, edit decision lists are automatically conformed by Resolve, subsequently allowing multiple workstations to access the same material in any order.

“The new features of Resolve offer expanded tools that speed up the conforming process, including automatic conflict resolution for EDLs, which eliminates problems that typically accompany speed or EDL changes,” says Digital Film Lab CEO Kris Kolodziejski. “Resolve allows us to generate isolation areas around an image by using custom shapes with multiple points, and then track the image throughout all camera movements. Yet no matter how many tools we use, nothing slows the system down.”

The Resolve DI system will be used to color grade material scanned by the studio’s new Spirit scanner. Upcoming projects scheduled for finishing include the 1916 silent epic, Intolerance, directed by D.W. Griffith.
