BOXX'S APEXX FEATURES FOUR DUAL-CORE AMD PROCESSORS

AUSTIN, TX - Boxx Technologies (www.boxxtech.com) has launched Apexx 4, its top-of-the-line personal workstation designed specifically for visual effects professionals looking to maximize their productivity. Apexx 4 uses a four Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor architecture, allowing pros to work on complex effects and animations in realtime. As a true 64-bit personal workstation with as much as 64GB of memory, the system delivers a high-end computing experience that was once only available on proprietary UNIX workstations.

The Boxx design team paid special attention to ensure that, with its tremendous processing power, the Apexx 4 workstation remained quiet enough to be comfortably positioned right next to the artist. The company has worked closely with numerous independent software vendors to ensure that Apexx 4 is compatible with a broad range of applications. The system’s performance benchmarks are the result of an extensive certification and optimization program implemented in conjunction with Boxx’s software partners.

Mental Images, whose Mental Ray rendering software is considered a standard for VFX, ran Apexx 4 through its paces and observed a speed-up factor of 7.2 compared to a one processor machine. “Instead of waiting seven minutes for the rendering of a complex scene, it will now take less than a minute," says Runa Loeber, director platforms & security for Mental Images. The Apexx 4 is now available.
