DORITOS' SUPER BOWL SPOT COMES FROM INDIE EFFORT

CARY, NC - Five Point Productions' (www.5pointproductions.com) submission for Doritos' "Crash the Super Bowl" contest was selected to air during the game on February 4th. The :30 spot was conceived, shot and posted in just four days, and encourages fans of the snack food to live their lives like Doritos - bold, spicy and crunchy.

The Frito Lay-sponsored contest asked fans to create their own 30-second Doritos commercial. Live the Flavor was one of only five finalists chosen by an online vote.

The commercial shows a young man, driving in his car. A "spicy" girl on the sidewalk distracts him, leading to a "crunchy" crash. The girl makes a "bold" move by stepping into traffic to check on the driver. She trips in the street, leaving the viewer to question whether "smooth" can be used to describe the chips' flavor? Probably not.

The project marks a collaboration between Weston Phillips, Barrett Phillips, Dale Backus, Cori Backus and Nick Dimondi. A JVC ProHD HD100 Series camcorder was used to capture the spot's footage. Dale Backus says the JVC camera was used in combination with a Letus 35mm adapter. Weston Phillips notes that the Live the Flavor was edited using Apple Final Cut Pro. Adobe After Effects and Photoshop were also used.
