CREATIVE BUBBLE CUTS 'KID'S CHOICE AWARDS' PROMOS

NEW YORK - Creative Bubble (www.creativebubble.com) recently provided editing and audio services for a range of spots and promos leading up to this year’s Kid’s Choice Awards on Nickelodeon. Actor Jack Black returned once again to serve as host for the live event, which features performances by Miley Cyrus and The Naked Brothers Band, as well as guest appearances by Steve Carrell, Ashton Kutcher, Amy Poehler, and numerous others. The early promos showed only a silhouette of Black, leaving the audience to guess the host. In later promos, the comic’s identity is revealed.

In one :45 promo, the now-announced host is shown against a white background, interacting with a giant black stencil of the show’s logo. Black sticks his head through one letter and sits in another while hyping the program’s music, special guests and viewer input. As the promo closes, the giant stencil crashes forward, narrowly missing Black, who stresses the unpredictability of the event. Creative Bubble’s Kevin Quinlan used Autodesk Flame and Adobe After Effects to create the crashing effect, which included removal of the wires from the giant stencil. Senior editor Chris Reinhart cut the promo using an Avid Symphony system.

Reinhart and audio engineers Mike Barrett, Juan Sosa and Brett Graves also worked closely with Nickelodeon producer Mike Tricario to create some 30 variations on the Kid’s Choice theme, which draws on the heavy guitar riff of AC/DC’s “Back in Black” track.

In addition, the team provided sound design for the fast-paced, graphically-driven music video featuring Black singing “Jack is Back!“ Digidesign Pro Tools was used for audio post. Roger in LA handled animation.
