Lucky eights

NEW YORK - Visual effects house Spontaneous Combustion (www.spon.com) recently designed the Crazy 8 spot for the Colorado Lottery out of Karsh & Hagan, Denver. The spot is a fast-paced montage of images - all related to the number eight - superimposed against an ever-changing kaleidoscope background.

The foreground images appear like scrapbook photos and include a pie sliced into eight pieces, King Henry VIII, a billiard eight ball and a rodeo bronco rider, signifying the eight-second minimum required for a cowboy to ride a bronco to qualify in rodeo shows.

The Spontaneous team, lead by design director Dana Yee, used Discreet's Inferno and both 3D Studio Max and Abobe After Effects to create the montage of images and kaleidoscope background. The spot began airing in February.
