ENTITY FX CELEBRATES 'SMALLVILLE' MILESTONE

SANTA MONICA, CA – Entity FX has been providing visual effects for The CW’s Smallville for the past five seasons, totaling more than 2,700 shots. The studio recently put its stamp on its 100th episode for the series, creating effects for the Clark Kent, Aquaman, Cyborg, Green Arrow and Flash characters, all as part of the episode titled "Justice."

In the episode, The Green Arrow calls for reinforcements, with The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg returning to Smallville to help him take down LuthorCorp's secret lab. During a break-in at the LuthorCorp facility, Bart Allan/The Flash is captured and tortured by Lex. Clark Kent sets off to rescue him, but is slowed by meteor. An alarmed Chloe goes for help and the newly formed Justice League springs into action to rescue Clark and Bart.

The studio provided more than 50 VFX shots for the episode, including super speed effects for The Flash, robotic eye effects for Cyborg, and CG water and super-swim effects for Aquaman. Additional effects included the “Clark-Time” effect for Clark Kent, a range of greenscreen composites, and both explosions and CG electric charges.

Entity FX used 3D modeling and particle systems in Autodesk Maya to create the effects. Adobe After Effects was used for compositing and tracking was accomplished via 2d3's Boujou application.
