DIGIDESIGN INTROS MONITOR LINE, HINTS AT PRO TOOLS OPTION

LAS VEGAS - Avid's Digidesign (www.digidesign.com)
audio division has entered the studio reference monitor market with a new family of speakers. The company is also previewing the new Pro Tools Video Satellite HD Option, which will be supported in an upcoming release of the DAW.

The Digidesign Reference Monitor Series (RMS) of speakers includes the 5.5-inch, two-way RM1 ($1,249) and the 6.5-inch, two-way RM2 ($1,749). The monitors are the result of a collaboration with the UK's PMC, Ltd. and deliver an extremely flat frequency response, which is important for pros that require a pure, uncolored audio output when performing a mix.

Digidesign is using NAB to show its commitment to improving interoperability and networking capabilities with Avid video production systems. The Video Satellite HD Option will allow Pro Tools|HD users to work with full resolution HD Avid video projects with realtime transitions and effects, while still maintaining a full track count and uncompromised mixing and processing performance.

In related news, Digidesign reports that it has sold 1,900 of its ICON consoles to date.
