TDK showing disc for Sony's XDCAM

GARDEN CITY, NY - TDK (www.tdk.com) is at NAB with its prototype blue laser technology optical storage disc. The disc, which represents the company's move into the professional market, holds 23.3GB while providing optimal video recording and playback when used with Sony's XDCAM camcorders and decks.

TDK (SU9512) will also release a blue laser disc for Sony's "Professional Disc for DATA" system, designed for archiving and back-up for various data solutions, including optical libraries. Also on exhibit are the LTO (linear tape open) Ultrium 2 data cartridge, which provides a data storage capacity of 400GB (200GB non-compressed) and a data transfer rate of 80MB/sec. The company is also showing its DAT 72 data cartridge, which uses DDS technology to provide 36GB of uncompressed storage with a maximum transfer rate of 3.5MB/sec. DAT 72 drives are also backwards compatible with DDS-3 and DDS-4 cartridges.
